Key Largo Florida was great for the Retirement Travelers, as we ventured to the beautiful Vizcaya Museum and Gardens and the Florida Keys to wrap-up an amazing 7-month RV trip in our Airstream. Vizcaya was the winter retreat of James Deering of International Harvestor fortune. This National Historic Landmark was built in 1916 as a tribute to the Italian Renaissance. We toured the museum and gardens and had a wonderful time.
The next stop was camping in Key Largo Florida. While there, we explored John Pennekamp State Park, which was the first underwater state park, by snorkeling the living coral reef and seeing the “Christ of the Abyss.” The next day we went on a boat tour through the mangroves of the southern Everglades National Park, where we saw manatees, dolphins and a variety of birds. We finished up our amazing visit to the Florida Keys by spending a little time in Key West, Florida, which is the southernmost point in the continental US.
