Our backpack progression…
During our first year of travel, John carried an Osprey 55 L (with detachable daypack) and Bev a 40 L (and carried a tote). In year two and three, we both used 55 L with the daypack. We found that while we liked the pack, we didn’t like having two pieces. It was uncomfortable, and we wished we were hands-free.
In 2025, we are both carrying the 65 L (men’s) with an unstructured Cotopaxi daypack tucked inside. Our 65 L has plenty of extra room. When needed, we can pull out our daypack and carry it on a plane or train when we check our bag.
