Paris is a top spot for sightseeing, fashion, stunning monuments, and top-tier food. Filled with restaurants that have Michelin stars, super-chefs, classic French bistro options, and the infamous Cordon Bleu school, it’s easy to see how Paris has become (and remains) a top food destination. As a location with a food-educated public, any culinary claims made in Paris are first rigorously tested.

While Parisian food is stunning on its own, the French capital also offers a wide array of international delights, from contemporary Asian to African-Japanese fusion cuisine. So whether you’re on a tight budget or want to splurge on a French meal while visiting, you’ll find an option that tastes amazing and is within your price range.

Since Paris has so many food offerings spread throughout the city, it can be overwhelming to select which ones to stop by, especially during shorter visits. So we’ve put together a list of the best restaurants in Paris for you to peruse, making selecting food spots for your itinerary easier.

About Food Culture in Paris

French food is one of the most influential cuisines in the world. It has inspired food in many other locations, from the US to Canada, Vietnam, India, etc. However, it took Paris a while to develop its style before becoming such a significant influence.

Paris’ food culture began in medieval times when meals were highly acidic. This acidic flavor in dishes continued until the 1500s, when sugar became highly popular in the country. The surge in sugar led to its inclusion in a wide variety of items, from wine to fish, meat, and even water.

This sugar surge helped sculpt Parisian cuisine, creating a clear distinction between sweet and salty. It also led to nearly all meals being served with a dessert. In the 1600s, King Louis XIV and his palace (Versailles) helped spread French cuisine. This led to the creation of cookbooks throughout the 1600s and 1700s. These cookbooks made French food accessible to those around the world.

Here is a list of top Paris restaurants to check out during your next visit. These restaurants range from fine dining to casual joints, offering a spot for any budget.

In creating our list, we used restaurants we’ve visited, those that get the best reviews, or recommendations from other travelers. Let’s face it, there’s always a place we hear about after leaving that we want to try when we return. Now it’s your turn to get busy eating! Let us know your favorite, even if it’s not on the list.

Also, be sure to check our travel guide for the best things to do in Paris to find everything this amazing city has to offer.

HOW TO SAVE THIS MAP:

Each icon has embedded information in the map, so click to review. To the right of the title of the map, click the ⭐️ STAR to save to your Google Map Account. To view it on your computer or phone, open Google Maps, click the three lines on the upper left, select “Saved,” select “Maps,” and this map will be listed below.

La Poule Au Pot

For authentic French cuisine, head to La Poule Au Pot. This Parisian spot stayed true to its roots, even with a change of ownership. Classic French dishes, from escargot to frog legs and poached chicken, fill the menu. La Poule Au Pot is a more expensive restaurant, so it’s best for special occasions or if you want a splurge-worthy meal.

Chef Jean-François Piège is the third owner of this establishment. Upon taking over, he updated the interior yet created a space reminiscent of Paris 60 or 70 years ago. It’s an excellent spot for enjoying authentic French dishes alongside a long list of available wines.

This eatery offers a small yet creative menu that will have your mouthwatering. In addition, Le Saint Sebastien offers small touches here and there that make the experience fantastic, such as providing organic wines, locally sourced ingredients, and a focus on sustainability in their supply chain and kitchen.

You’ll find an array of modern French cuisine on the menu, including options like Oyster Mushroom Stew and Monkfish Tail with Roasted Eggplant. Save room for dessert when dining here, as the sweets are as mouthwatering as the starters and main dishes.

Double Dragon

Double Dragon offers a unique experience that is casual and aimed toward East Asian cuisine. Instead of the typical French servers in black and white, you’ll find servers in t-shirts. This laid-back restaurant is an excellent option for those on a tight budget.

This Paris restaurant uses fresh, organic produce as a mainstay for its dishes. You’ll see many typical Asian dishes on the menu, including mapo tofu and Korean chicken wings. However, the more inventive dishes are where Double Dragon shines. Try the Foamy Red Spinach Curry with Egg Yolk during your visit.

Le Cadoret

Listed on the Michelin guide, this eatery is run by a sister and brother duo. Le Cadoret opened in 2017, offering delightful French cuisine in a cozy environment.

While simple, the cuisine is delicious and skillful. You’ll find items on the menu like Courgette with Haddock and a Fromage (cheese) platter for dessert. The sweet puddings are incredibly delicious here, with a not-too-sticky consistency.

Pavillon

Pavillon is another delightful place that makes the best Paris restaurants list, easily earning its place as a Michelin-star eatery. Run by the famous Chef Yannick Alléno, who also runs L’Abysse and Le 1947, this eatery offers high-quality food at more affordable prices. However, even though it’s considered more affordable, the restaurant is elegant and provides a luxurious dining experience.

Upon entering PavYllon’s dining room, you’ll find comfy seats surrounding an oval bar, from which you can view the chef cooking your meal. Outstanding service and flavorful dishes can be found at this restaurant. In addition, each dish is artfully plated, adding to the culinary experience.

The Thick Turbot Fish in Two Services is a delicious entrée served at this restaurant, which includes turbot fish cooked via two different methods. Also, try the wines at this restaurant, as they have lovely wine pairing options. It’s also an ideal spot for those with dietary restrictions, as Pavillon is more than happy to accommodate restaurant guests.

The interior of this eatery is intimate and rustic, providing an ideal spot for a quick bite to eat, and why it makes the best Paris restaurants list.

There is a rotating menu, so you can expect to encounter new foods each time you visit. If you have more time to spare, enjoy breakfast or lunch at the bakery. Otherwise, there are breakfast items that you can order to go or delicious baked goods, like mouthwatering cookies. You will quickly find out why this is one of the best places to eat in Paris.

As a heads up, you’ll want to make reservations for this restaurant far ahead of time, as it’s a popular dining spot. You can select between a wine and food pairing or a five-course tasting menu for lunch. At dinner, the options switch to a seven-course meal or a wine and food pairing option. Expect delicate dishes like seared tuna surrounded by tomato water and raspberries on the menu.

Aux Bons Crus is an excellent restaurant for budget travelers. Featuring a fun interior with checkered tablecloths and a cozy environment, Aux Bons Crus is well-known for its constantly changing menu. • We rolled into Gyeongju on a zippy high-speed train and realized that this place is like walking through a history book that forgot it was supposed to be boring. They call it Korea’s “museum without walls,” and we couldn’t agree more. Our favorite stop? The stunning Woljeonggyo Bridge — painted dragons above, river below, and us smack in the middle of this fabulous city wondering how we could rearrange our schedule for a longer stay. Our hearts were hitching a ride back to the 7th century, but unfortunately, the next train was scheduled to take us to the next amazing Korean city. We’ll be back, no doubt! We love it so!

  • One thing we learned in Seoul today is that by wearing our Retirement Travelers shirts and vlogging our adventures, we were no longer ordinary tourists. We were viral-worthy legends in the eyes of middle-school boys. At Gyeongbokgung Palace, we were admiring the royal rooftops when this fun group of kids spotted us and swarmed. Phones clicked, peace signs flew, and we soaked up our five minutes of fame. And to think—our kids back home just call us “cute old people” but clearly, in South Korea, we are one step away from debuting as the next K-pop duo. 🤣 #seoulkorea #seoul🇰🇷 #kpop #korea NEVER STOP ACTING LIKE A KID!!!
  • Hands down, our favorite thing at the Osaka World Expo 2025 was the Grand Ring—a jaw-dropping, 2-kilometer wooden skywalk that loops above the pavilions like a giant hula hoop. Not only does it hold the Guinness World Record for the largest wooden architectural structure, but it also came with one magical feature most of the pavilions lacked: no reservations required!!! We strolled around the wooden marvel like VIPs with zero lines and awesome views. #osaka #worldexpo #japan
  • We took one last wander through Kyoto’s bamboo forest today—along with what felt like the entire population of Earth. Still, the towering stalks and swaying hush made it feel like nature was trying its best to whisper over the crowd. As we get ready to leave Kyoto behind, we’re carrying some unforgettable moments with us and we look forward to adding some more along the way. #kyoto #japanlife #bambooforest
  • We’ve officially arrived in Kyoto, and guess who’s already winning at this whole cultural immersion thing. Our 7-year-old granddaughter. Jet lag? She laughed in its face. Chopsticks? She’s in training. Bowing politely? Basically, a local diplomat. And the outfit? A pink kimono and a matching fan that we bought her—she’s got more style than the rest of us combined. Meanwhile, we’re over here trying to decode the Japanese metro system like it’s an escape room… after a month of being spoiled by China’s luxury rail life. She’s thriving, we’re surviving—and honestly, we wouldn’t have it any other way! It is also good reminder to us to still see the world through the curiosity and innocence of a child. Evie, Thanks for joining us in Japan!!! #kyotojapan #kyoto #japan
  • In the heart of Shanghai’s futuristic skyline, we found ourselves living a dream—our lodging nestled high within the iconic Jin Mao Tower(Bldg on left). Each morning, we woke to a commanding view of the World Financial Center slicing through the sky, and just steps away stood the architectural marvel that is the Shanghai Tower—the third tallest building in the world. Our adventure reached thrilling new heights as we ascended to its summit, where the city sprawled beneath us like a living tapestry. It was more than just a stay; it was a front-row seat to one of the most awe-inspiring skylines on Earth. #shanghai #chinatrip #jinmaotower #shanghaitower #china
  • A visit to Beijing isn’t complete without a long walk on the Great Wall (Badaling section), which is now only a 30-minute train ride from Beijing North Railway Station. It is simply spectacular and a must visit. #greatwall #greatwallofchina #china
  • Bev stood in awe before the Army of Terracotta Warriors near Xi'an. Hidden for 2200 years, these ancient relics were only unearthed by a Chinese farmer in 1974. China's First Emperor Qin Shi Huang sought to defy mortality. He poured vast resources into constructing an underground empire, complete with palaces, armies, chariots, and stables. Spanning 21 square miles, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is the largest burial ground on earth. #xian #xianchina #terracottawarriors #china #retirementtravel

  • We are in Chongqing. This municipality in southwestern China is considered one of the largest cities in the world with over 30 million people. It is massive! It is nicknamed “The Mountain City” because of the many urban hills with unique transportation systems that adapt to the terrain. This is a vibrant place with lots of high-end shopping, a monorail that passes through a building, towering skyscrapers, and so many wonderful “Hot Pot” restaurants. #china #chongqing #lizibastation

Several of you have asked how we are getting around in China? Well, the Chinese high-speed train system has quite simply BLOWN US AWAY!!! It is modern, affordable, fast, clean, efficient, convenient and has great service. There is a rapidly expanding network of 25,000 miles of high-speed rail lines, with numerous daily routes going about anywhere you would want to go. We have tried the 1st and 2nd class tickets, both of which are perfectly fine, but admit we love the over-the-top luxury of business class for affordable prices. We will be detailing more info about Chinese train travel in future videos, so stay tuned. John and Bev

  • Tianmen Mountain was our third incredible attraction near Zhangjiajie, China. The mountain can be accessed from the city by two different exhilarating aerial trams or a dangerous highway featuring 99 hairpin turns. Tianmen literally means “Heaven’s Gate” and the 999 stairs leading up to the opening are known as the Stairway to Heaven. Climbing this stairway was another bucket list experience for us, so we took our time on the steep steps and just savored every moment. After passing through the gate, a long series of escalators take you up through the inside of the mountain to the top, where they have a glass-bottomed walkway hugging a cliffside and many great views of the area.

John and Bev #china #trains #traintravel

Tianmen Mountain was our third incredible attraction near Zhangjiajie, China.
