Nassau, the capital of The Bahamas, is known for its beautiful turquoise water, white sandy beaches, and of course, amazing drinks and food. From Italian to Asian to authentic Caribbean dishes, Nassau has it all. There are many delicious native Caribbean dishes to try when visiting affordable Nassau restaurants such as fried plantains, conch salad, Johnny bread (a sweet baked treat that is a mix between bread and cake), and guava duff (sponge cake with guava and rum sauce). Buying food on an island can be expensive, so we have put together a list of seven affordable Nassau restaurants for you to check out. We spent a week of our retirement travel adventures visiting Nassau, Bahamas and were always looking for bargains.

Nesbitt’s
Serving authentic Bahamian food for 40 years, Nesbitt’s is a local favorite that will give your taste buds a run for their money. Try the chicken souse with a Johnny cake for breakfast and the sautéed shrimp entree for lunch or dinner. The side options are amazing and they recommended trying the mac and cheese, peas and rice, or potato salad. This was one of our favorite Nassau restaurants.

Original Patties
Original Patties serves up delicious homemade, freshly baked bakery items and is home to the original “Hot Pattie”. A pattie is a large empanada stuffed with chicken, beef, and vegetables and makes the perfect meal or snack when you are on the go. Menu favorites include the chicken pattie, jerk chicken, fresh sweet bread and coconut roll. If you can’t make it to the restaurant, most grocery stores, gas stations and some local restaurants carry patties made by Original Patties.

Evelyn’s Kitchen
Evelyn’s Kitchen (A bright green truck located at the end of Potter’s Cay) serves up delicious caribbean staples. When you stop here for a visit, try their Bahamian peas and rice, ham braised in tomato sauce, (local-style) macaroni and cheese, curry chicken, and conch salad. Opened daily from 6am-3pm.

Dino’s Gourmet Conch Salad
Dino’s Gourmet Conch Salad is a clear standout if you are looking for an amazing conch salad during your Bahamas visit to Nassau places to eat. They are famous for their tropical conch salad, which includes pineapple, apple, mango, and cucumbers. This popular joint can get busy during peak lunch and dinner hours, so be sure to grab a mixed drink or beer to enjoy while you wait!

The New Duff Restaurant & Bar
This casual hot spot is the perfect stop for breakfast or a quick-bite. The New Duff is known for serving the famous guava duff with a twist. They make homemade fluffy steamed stuffed bao buns infused with Caribbean flavors and spices. Must-try menu items include the traditional guava and caramelized coconut bao bun. If you are looking for something savory, check out their bao buns filled with jerk chicken, curried mutton, ginger pork.

Bahamian Cookin’ Restaurant
A local favorite for 30 years, Bahamian Cookin’ is a must-try if you are looking for authentic Bahamian food. The atmosphere is welcoming, it’s family friendly, and this once secret gem is gaining popularity by locals and tourists. They are best known for their seafood, such as cracked conch, boiled lobster, and fried shrimp. This restaurant is cash only, but the prices are reasonable at this amazing fish fry joint.

The Pink Shack
If you are looking for tasty food and amazing drinks, stop by The Pink Shack. Enjoy fabulous BBQ, conch, and burgers and fries. They’re known for their drink, Sky Juice, which is a must-try when you visit. More menu favorites include their daiquiris and their large variety of local cold beers. Come visit this fun and chill spot, open daily from 11am-12pm for one of the best Nassau places to eat.
