Things to Do in Singapore and Why Visit?
Cleanliness and Safety:
Singapore is known for its exceptionally clean streets, well-maintained public spaces, and strict laws that ensure cleanliness. The city-state is also one of the safest countries in the world, with low crime rates and efficient law enforcement. We never felt unsafe and rarely even saw a piece of trash!
Multicultural Diversity:
Singapore is a melting pot of different cultures and ethnicities, including Chinese, Malay, Indian, and Eurasian communities. This multicultural mix is reflected in the city’s architecture, cuisine, and festivals, providing visitors with a rich and diverse experience.
Great Infrastructure:
Singapore boasts a highly developed infrastructure, with excellent public transportation systems, including an extensive subway network (MRT) and buses. The city is also known for its modern and well-maintained roads, making it easy to navigate and explore. We stayed near a Metro stop and easily navigated the entire city.
Amazing Food:
Singapore is a paradise for food lovers. Its culinary scene offers a wide range of options, from Michelin-starred restaurants to hawker centers serving affordable and delicious local dishes. The country is famous for its diverse street food, including iconic dishes like chili crab, chicken rice, laksa, and roti prata. We had some of the best food of our entire trip in the incredible hawker centers of Singapore.
Shopping and Entertainment:
Singapore is a shopper’s paradise, featuring luxury shopping malls, vibrant street markets, and bustling shopping districts. Orchard Road is renowned for its high-end fashion brands, while areas like Bugis Street and Chinatown offer affordable and trendy fashion options. The city also hosts various entertainment options, such as theme parks, world-class theaters, and vibrant nightlife spots. With our lightweight packs, we didn’t actually do any shopping, but it was still fun to watch.
Gardens and Green Spaces:
While we saw a densely populated city, abundance of greenery is what we remember the most. The city is home to numerous well-maintained parks, gardens, and nature reserves. The most famous is Gardens by the Bay, an iconic attraction featuring futuristic Supertrees and beautiful flower domes. Our favorite is the National Orchid Garden, which is probably the best display of orchids anywhere in the world.
Modern Architecture:
Singapore’s skyline is dotted with impressive modern architecture. Iconic landmarks such as Marina Bay Sands, with its unique design and rooftop infinity pool, and the futuristic Helix Bridge showcase the city’s commitment to innovative and striking architectural designs. We walked the famous bridge and just had to make a trip to the top of the Marina Bay Sands for some incredible city views.
Cultural Attractions:
Singapore offers a range of cultural attractions that provide insights into its history and heritage. Must-visit places include the ethnic enclaves of Chinatown, Little India, and Kampong Glam, where visitors can explore temples, mosques, traditional shops, and sample authentic cuisine. We thought there was just so much packed into a small country.
Accessibility:
Singapore serves as a major transportation hub, making it easily accessible from many parts of the world. Changi Airport, consistently ranked among the best airports globally, offers extensive flight connections, and the country’s compact size ensures that attractions and destinations are within easy reach.
