Amicalola Falls State Park
We continue our retirement travel with a trip to the north Georgia mountains, not far from Helen, Georgia. It is a beautiful starting point for the Appalachian Trail at Springer Mountain, that goes for over 2000 miles through fourteen states in the eastern United States, ending in Maine. The Amicalola Falls park definitely “falls” into one the best places to visit in the Georgia. It boasts one of the tallest waterfalls east of the Mississippi River in a tranquil wooded park within easy access to Atlanta. Parking is plentiful, and the hike is not challenging. So be sure to put Amicalola Falls State Park on your Georgia bucket list. It is only a short drive from the Atlanta area and makes for an easy trip.
Another Great Georgia State Park
If you are in Georgia during your retirement, be sure to head to the beautiful coast and check out Jekyll Island. It is located in the southeast portion of Georgia, along the Atlantic coast. We had a great visit there camping, renting bicycles, hiking through the beautiful wooded trails, and enjoying the beauty of the island before heading to Amicalola Falls State Park. You can see our Jekyll Island video here and see our shrimp tasting competition of local restaurants. Eating great seafood is a tough job, but somebody has to do it!!!
